Introducing arnold jackson: an original rock band in an era when
original rock bands don’t really exist outside of their bedrooms and
Pitchfork Media. arnold jackson exists in part to take back the
airwaves from nu metal bands and models who just happen to make music
(if just for fifteen minutes) and annoy MTV-culture clones the way that
Sonic Youth and the Pixies used to do before the 100% video featured
cool skater kids having fun and everyone forgot that once upon a time
Master-Dik made us pee our pants. To be what "alternative music" was
before it was a popular misnomer.
When used properly, this powerful voice lesson/warm up/exercise routine will help you:
- SCREAM louder and stronger
- STRENGTHEN your singing voice
- GROWL with gruffness and character
- WARM-UP your voice to avoid damaging it

About the Author:
arnold jackson started in 2000 playing music in graduate student
housing on the south side of Chicago. Brother and sister-duo Black
Bryson and Kim Drummond went to a Kill Rock Stars show starring
Sleater-Kinney and the Gossip in late 1999 and decided they needed to
start killing rock stars toute suite. They recruited their friend Shoaf
for this purpose, and arnold jackson was born. They played ‘Monkey Gone
to Heaven’ over and over again and a few original songs for their
friends in their Hyde Park apartments, and did so for a little over a
year.
Kim
Drummond left the band for Hollywood, CA in August 2001 and was
replaced by their mutual friend James Spence, a classical guitarist
with an ear for indie rock and Led Zeppelin.
arnold
jackson recorded their first demo at Superior Street, a rehearsal
studio they transformed into a recording studio with help of local
engineer Mark E. Greene. These demos became the basis of their first
studio release, the Black Arts EP, recorded at Creative Universe in Chicago, February 2002.
For
the next year and a half, arnold jackson played many shows in Chicago
in support of the EP, in which they developed the songs that would
become their first full-length, GO! CITY.
From the beginning, their only real goal as a band was to play their
favorite venue the Empty Bottle, in which they had seen favorites such
as Guided by Voices and White Stripes play. They realized this goal in
January of 2003, and again in August of the same year.
GO! CITY was recorded at Stray Dog Recording Studios in the first half of 2004 and was released on Record High Records on April 1, 2005. It contains 12 songs about magic and loss in the city of Big Shoulders and broken backs.
arnold
jackson still love the music and secretly have a proletarian dream of
taking it back from your brother-in-law and the A&R bobbleheads who
feed him. They’re currently in the studio tracking their last album, The world is ugly and the people are sad, for a late summer 2005 release.
